The Abecedarian Approach is an evidence-based educational framework designed to enhance early childhood development through high quality adult-child interactions and language development. Our practitioners are trained in the Abecedarian Approach through the University of Melbourne’s Graduate School of Education. The Abecedarian Approach consists of four elements:

  • Language priority where language is at the top of an adults list to do with their child
  • Learning games where you engage in playful adult-child interactions
  • Conversational reading where children play an active role in conversational reading
  • Enriched caregiving where each routine or activity of the day can include care, emotion and learning.

The timeframe for the Abecedarian Approach is variable and depends on the needs of each individual family and children. The Abecedarian Approach is free of charge for families receiving family services support.
